I was reading in 2 Corinthians and had to stop after reading only the first two verses of Chapter 1. It's only Paul's greeting to the Corinthian church, and I had read it--well, skipped over it--many times. But this time it made a new impression on me. What if I were writing a letter that would become a book of the Bible? What would my greeting say? The apostle Paul's greetings often declared one or more of the following: who he was, what he was, why he was, and Whose he was. They also may have noted who his companions were and to whom he was writing. And they usually went on to give an admonition he wanted to pass on, a bit of encouragement straight from God. So, what would my greeting say? Do I know as surely as Paul who I am, what I am, why I am, and Whose I am? Do I know my audience when I write or when I speak, and do I keep them in my mind? And am I so familiar with the ways of God that I am confident to speak for Him? Some days, I know the answer to all those questions. I have faith without doubts and can clearly see the path ahead of me. And I've spent so much time in God's presence, I am absolutely sure of what He is saying to me and to the ones He's given me to speak to. Other days, not so much. Other days I struggle. I might not feel like I'm hearing God clearly enough to pass on anything. I might wonder if my purpose is as clear as I once thought it was. Thankfully, even on those days, I don't wonder Whose I am. I belong to Almighty God, and that settles everything else until I am sure of my footing once again. Because of Him. So, what would I write? I would write this: Wendi, a servant of Christ and encourager to His people. To the children of the Most High LORD. Joy and peace be yours in the name of Jesus Christ. I write that to you today. As a servant of my wonderful Master, I send you encouragement today. I send you joy. I send you peace. In the name of Jesus Christ, I send you His unfailing love.
